Lily Pad is an interactive sound and light sculpture consisting of floating lily pads and arum-lily-shaped fountains. When the arum lilies fill up with water and tip over, they pour onto the floating lily pads below, activating a sensor that triggers each pad to illuminate and play a synthesized tone. The variation in time for each arum lily fountain to cycle results in a polyrhythmic sequence that creates random musical compositions. In addition, lily pads are placed near the water's edge, allowing the audience to interact with the sculpture, influencing the music and creating an ensemble between humans and the digital and natural world.
