Luminescent Neural Pathways is an installation that investigates the nature of connection — as a biological reality, a social condition, and a fundamental principle underlying complex systems.

Emerging from a period of chronic illness marked by neurological disruption, the work is rooted in the experience of fragmentation within the self. Memory loss, cognitive dissonance, and the breakdown of internal continuity revealed the extent to which identity is contingent upon the integrity of connection — the firing of pathways, the transmission of signal, the coherence of network. The gradual restoration of these processes became both a physiological and conceptual point of departure.

The installation extends this inquiry outward, positioning connection not as an abstract ideal, but as a structural condition through which meaning is formed. Drawing on systems observed in neural networks, fractal geometries, and distributed structures, the work unfolds through the aggregation of individual elements into a unified whole. Each component exists in a state of incompletion when isolated, yet gains significance through relation — suggesting that wholeness is not inherent, but constructed through interaction.

Participation becomes integral to the work’s formation. The structure is not predetermined, but emerges through collective engagement, where individual actions contribute to an evolving system. In this way, authorship is decentralised, and the installation resists fixed form, instead existing as a dynamic network shaped by presence and contribution.
